General Notes

Dynamic Merchant Description

The default card acceptor name and location values used in all simple payment authorisation requests are sourced from DECTA's Merchant processing system. This information can be manually overwritten by the merchant, using specific details; namely, etid and merchant_name.

If the etid detail value is set to "Y," the card acceptor name and location value will be replaced with the value provided in the merchant_name details.

It is important to note that if MPI 3DS is used for card authentication, then the merchant name must match in both the 3D authentication process and the card authorisation. This ensures consistency and security in payment processing. However, the use of these details in advanced payment scenarios is prohibited.

Additionally, the formation of descriptors according to the requirements of Visa or Mastercard is the responsibility of the IPSP (Internet Payment Service Provider).

Merchant Payment Gateway ID for Mastercard Cards

Mastercard is mandating to provide Merchant Payment Gateway (MPG) ID value in all card not present transactions (excluding MO/TO transactions) in purchases, online refunds and account funding transactions. MPG ID consists of MPG company ID provided by Mastercard by registration of MPG as a service provider with leading zeros.

When no MPG is used (e.g., own gateway), company must provide default value 00000999998 as MPG ID.

Mastercard has announced in 2024 revised standards requiring issuers and acquirers to store, retrieve, and return the Transaction Link ID (TLID) from original or initial lifecycle transaction in all subsequent lifecycle messages of a transaction. Effective with 18.10.2025 Mastercard is mandating that all acquirers must send the original transaction TLID value in all subsequent messages that are part of the same transaction lifecycle, such as clearing messages, incremental authorizations, reversals, financial completion advices, reversal advices, and exceptions. DECTA is supporting this requirement in processing in case TLID is received from Mastercard (see NB1 and NB2!) Starting with 02.06.2026 Mastercard recommends that acquirers send the TLID of the original transaction in all economically-related transactions - refunds and all kinds of recurring payments. The usage of TLID in economically-related transactions is the full responsibility of the acquirer. Received TLID value can be found in authorisation reports by Mastercard, by DECTA or in Payment response message under fld_126_RTID.

NB1 - Acquirer must apply with Mastercard to start receiving TLID in authorisation responses from Mastercard.

NB2 - Mastercard at this time does not return TLID in authorisation responses to all kinds of recurring payments.
